Chapter Summary

What Happens

Joey has a new rider: Trooper Warren. Warren lost his previous horse and Joey has helped to restore his confidence. Warren is kind and does his best to protect Joey from the worst of the harsh winter conditions. The winter proves very tough for all. One morning, the soldiers come for the horses unexpectedly. They move through a ruined village and out into no man's land, where they prepare to fight.
