Chapter Summary
What Happens
The horses have less work to do and spend peaceful time with Emilie. They are allowed to remain on the farm while the war moves elsewhere. When the soldiers return, they take the horses to pull guns. Joey and Topthorn bid a tearful farewell to the grandfather and Emilie before being led away.
